The Family Arabian Foal (abbreviated FAF) was introduced in 1961 when Breyer originally lost the rights to produce the Proud Arabian Foal. Mold marks for this mold are many and varied, but all models have the round "Breyer Molding Co." stamp. In addition, 1960-1961 models have round, inward-curving ears, the 1962-1971 ears end in straight points, with the right ear larger than the left when viewed from the front, and in 1971/72 to 1978/79 and 1982-present the ears are pointed with the right ear noticeably thinner and the inner side nearly concave. The Family Arabian Foal was sculpted by Chris Hess and is Breyer mold #9.
All of the early Family Arabian models in alabaster, appaloosa, bay, charcoal, and palomino were used singly and in multiple sets and in touch-ability display boxes. While these boxes and sets have different numbers they used the same model, i.e. the palomino Family Arabian Foal was the same in #6 as in #456.
