RAW CASTINGS

Raw castings are good quality castings and are sold without any large air bubbles or serious defects (broken parts, warped or will not stand solidly, distortions, etc). What we offer are Raw Castings which are much nicer than Bodies, We are unable to provide photos of each raw casting, however. Raw castings and bodies are fully guaranteed from any large casting defects (read the rest of this page for specifics) - the same as fully cleaned models. Read the refund specifics posted here.

Raw castings and bodies are sold without any extras such as: Books, acrylic rods, bases or microchips.

Resin models are crafted from a polyurethane resin material. This material allows for extremely fine details and intricate designs. Resin castings are made with a resin that is much different than resin used for 3D printing. Cast models have stainless steel wire support in all legs and, usually, the tail (see photos below). The model is created by mixing a two-part liquid resin which is poured into a silicone mold. It cures within minutes to form one solid figure. Cast models are not created in thousands of layers and have been proven to last for decades.

Every resin cast model needs to be thoroughly washed before any prepping begins. Models are cast using powder (prevents pin holes and surface bubbles) and silicone spray (helps with removal from the mold). You may not be able to feel it or see it, but it is always there. These materials will make it difficult for primer to adhere to the surface of the model. It is removed by using abrasive cleaners (such as "Barkeepers Friend" or "Comet") and a brush (toothbrushes work well). If you ever have a chance to see a resin casting that has not had any powder on it, you will find that it looks totally different - very shiny, with a finish that is different from what most of our model horses look like.

A raw resin casting is essentially the unpainted, unfinished figure straight out of its silicone mold. Unpainted artist resin models are sold as a "blank canvas”. No prepping is ever done. When you order a raw casting, what you receive is:

  • An unpainted form: The piece is made from polyurethane (or similar) resin, but has not been sanded, primed, or painted in any way. No stripping needed.

  • Mold marks and flash: You may see seam lines where the two halves of the mold meet, “flash” (thin bits of excess resin), or very small air bubbles, or areas of excess resin that may need to be sanded or dremeled off (whatever your preference of tool is)—these are perfectly normal and expected.

  • A customization blank: Raw castings are popular among hobbyists who want to trim, sand, prime, and then paint or detail the piece. You’ll need hobby knives, sandpaper, primer, and paints (acrylics are most common) to bring it to its finished form.

  • Faster turnaround: By shipping you the raw casting instead of a fully cleaned model, We can get it out to you much sooner—no cleaning delays—so you can take it to completion exactly how you like.

It is not very difficult to clean one of our raw castings. You will find the value unmatched and we hope that you have lots of fun with them!

If you have questions about your shipment, or any issues at all with what you receive from Seunta, there is no reason to not contact us immediately so that we can help you. Below is a photo of one of our raw castings. They DO vary greatly, much of that depending on the original sculpture and how it is finished. Casting recreates every little detail,, good or bad.

Below is a set of reference photographs illustrating some of the more extreme issues that can occur in resin casting. These images—showing problems such as air‐bubble entrapment, and pinholes—are provided purely for educational purposes. They’re here to help you recognize common defects.

Please note:

  • No judgment on artists or model creators: These examples are not meant as criticism of any individual’s work or skill. We all have our challenges.

  • Not our castings: None of the pieces shown were produced by our studio; they’ve been gathered to serve as cautionary examples. Your purchases from Seunta are always guaranteed against these types of defects.

  • Illustrative only: We offer these photos simply to highlight what to look out for when selecting or evaluating resin castings—so you can be empowered to recognize these issues.
